More about curling…
Curling, popular in countries like Switzerland, Canada, and Scotland, pits two teams of four players against each other on the ice. The goal is to slide granite stones (weighing around 20 kg) as close as possible to a circular target called the house. Teams take turns throwing their stones, aiming to get closer to the centre or to push the opponent’s stones away.
And the key tool? The broom! Players sweep the ice in front of the moving stone, reducing friction and allowing it to travel further and curve more - or less - depending on their strategy.
At the end of each “end” (similar to an inning or a set), the team with the stone closest to the centre of the house scores points. The game generally consists of 8 or 10 ends, and the winner is the team with the most points.
